Betsy Grider

Betsy Grider is NASCAR's Managing Director of Technology Development, currently leading NASCAR's Technology Development and Software Development teams. Betsy manages critical industry wide strategic technology projects, counsels senior leadership on strategic issues, and manages cross-functional project teams for Board-level projects. She has a passion for collaborative planning, change management, and entrepreneurial endeavors.

In 2014, Betsy launched the Technology Integration and Development department to enhance NASCAR's operation on all fronts through the strategic introduction of new technology into the business and the sport. Tech Dev requires problem solving in an ecosystem with the logistical complexity of moving 3 city blocks of Manhattan across the country 38 weekends a year, while developing technology alliances to showcase sponsor’s technology in NASCAR’s operating environment. In parallel, the software development team builds, supports, and innovates around the mission critical backbone to NASCAR's Timing and Scoring, Competition, and Racing Operations software platforms.

Prior to launching Technology Development, Betsy’s Strategic Development team served as the internal launch squad to structure and seed strategic platforms like the NASCAR Industry Action Plan (IAP) pursuing entrepreneurial and innovative growth opportunities across Youth, Gen Y, Multicultural, Driver Star Power, Event Experience, Digital/Social Media, and Product Relevance.

Prior to the emergence of the IAP, Betsy played a critical leadership role in the assessment, restructuring and proactive development of several key operations, including NASCAR Media Group, NASCAR Productions, and the transformation of company-wide business planning processes.

A few high-impact projects in Betsy’s tenure at NASCAR have included: Overseeing NASCAR business planning for 7 years, negotiating the rights to build and launch NASCAR’s Digital Media company (now 75-strong!), launching the Pit Road Vision Analytics based Officiating system, creating Twitter’s first-ever Sports Partnership, building the NASCAR Vision Framework. She is currently focused on the rapid evolution of data and analytics in the NASCAR ecosystem, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and the Race Management platform.

Betsy’s career in sports began when she served at the Sports Photography Editor for The Chronicle while earning her BA in English and Markets and Management Certificate at Duke. She most recently worked in Marketing for the Chicago White Sox before joining NASCAR in 2008.

Betsy and her husband Hansen live with their infant, toddler and rescue dog in Charlotte, North Carolina where she serves on the Charlotte Smart Cities Council and the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Humane Society. She is an advocate for clinical research in pediatric food allergy treatment, a startup advisor for women serving as CEOs in technology and a mentor to women in sports.
